Registration Policy
Why do I have to register?
You are required to register to use this board to prevent anonymous spamming or inappropriate posts. Your personal information will never be sold or distributed without your consent. Registering for this board does not grant your consent.

Please note that unregistered users may still view the forums. But they may not post new topics, reply to existing topics, or watch for forum activity.

How much information do I have to provide?
You must provide a real and valid email address. When you register, you will be sent a confirmation email and you must use the link provided to complete your registration. If your email address is not correct, you will not be registered. If you ever change your email address, you will have to repeat this process. Do not use a bogus email address! If you do, you will never receive the confirmation email required to activate your account.

Other than that, we suggest that you put in some location information as it adds to the "flavor" of the board. It is entirely your option to put as much or as little information as you like. Be aware, however, that some of the information that you enter will be public, so be smart - do not put anything that you would not be willing to write down and leave in a public place. You can get an idea of what is visible by clicking on any member name and viewing their profile.

Okay, so what sort of name should I use when I register?
Use whatever you like, as long as it is not vulgar or offensive. The moderators and administrators of this board have final say as to what is vulgar or offensive. Some folks like the feeling of being anonymous, others like being creative, and some just use their regular name. It's up to you.

What information do you track?
We record your IP address during registration and on each post that you make on our board. Other information is provided by you during the registration process and stored in our database as mentioned above.

Privacy Policy
What will you do with my email address?
The short answer: send you email. This will include the email required to complete your registration process, emails notifying you of new posts in topics you are watching, or other items that you may elect to subscribe to. We may periodically send out updates to all of the board members, but this will never include advertising, and should not exceed an average of 1 email message per month. Frankly, we don't even expect to send that many, but we're just covering our bases.

What won't you do with my email address?
We will not under any circumstances release, sell, or otherwise distribute any information including but not limited to your email address that you may provide in order to sign up for our service, unless compelled to do so by appropriate legal authorities. You agree to provide a valid and correct email address and contact information. You may use an alias when participating in a forums, and may elect to conceal your email address from other board members.

Our board administrators and moderators can view your email address at any time. They will use this ability only to contact you on matters relating to this board. If you feel that your email address has in any way been used inappropriately, you should notify the Administrators via our Contact form.

Can I "opt out" of emails from the board?
Yes and no. You must receive the confirmation email in order to complete your registration process. By registering, you are also granting us the permission to send you important announcements about the board, not expected to average more than 1 a month, if that much. Everything else is already configured as an "opt in" service. You may elect to watch a topic. You select whether to make your email address visible to other board members or not.
Who is allowed to send me email?
We send email from no-reply at phpbb2refugees.com. This email address must be added to your Approved Sender List if you have such a thing. An approved list only allows you to receive email from addresses on your list. If you do not add this address to your list, you will not be able to register, watch posts, or subscribe to a digest of forum activity.

Our board moderators are also allowed to send you email regarding board activity only. If you feel that a board moderator has abused this privilege, please use the contact form to let us know and we will investigate the issue. Please save any emails for our review.

Can I leave the board?
Sure, but we hate to see you go. If you wish to unregister for the service, you must send an email from the email used in your registration requesting to be removed. We will provide an email address for you to send your request to from our Contact Form. Once removed, no record of your profile information will be retained in the active configuration. Note that it may be contained in database backup files.

Please note that while your profile information will be removed any posts that you have made during your membership will remain. It is our policy that posts will not be removed when you leave because it could leave unexplained gaps in the remaining topics on our boards. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use this service.

Note that this policy does not apply to spammers or other users that post content that violates our posting guidelines. Any / all posts by such accounts will be removed and their account information banned from our board(s).

What if I change my email address? or other profile information?
We have implemented an audit feature that tracks certain profile changes. This audit can include but is not limited to tracking any changes that you might make to your email address. We will treat this audit log with the same care and concern that we use on your email address. Why do we even collect this information? We use it to help confirm user accounts that have become locked out due to invalid email address changes. For your privacy we require anyone claiming to be you to be able to provide certain profile information. This may include profile information like your email address. By keeping an audit log we have more history available to confirm that requests are legitimate.

Personal Messages
What are personal messages?
Other phpBB2 boards offer a feature called "private messages" that can be used to send a message directly from one board member to another board member. This feature was originally not available on this site, but has been brought back under the name "personal messages" instead.
Are they private?
Personal messages are exchanged between two board members. They do not appear as public posts on the board. However, the board administrators reserve the right to read any / all personal messages. This may be done to investigate a report of abuse or spam, or simply to make sure that members are not abusing the system. There should not be any implication of "privacy" with this part of our board. Note that the board administrators do not intend to make a habit of reading these messages but it could happen at any time. If you want true privacy then this is not the method to use.
What if I do not agree to this policy?
If you do not agree to this policy then you may not use the personal message system. Your use of the system grants the board administrator the right to read any or all of your messages, whether they are from your account or to your account.
I do not want any personal messages!
There is a profile option that is "Off" by default. If you do not want to receive personal messages from other board members simply leave your profile setting as it currently is set. If you want to send or receive personal messages you must opt-in to the service. Note that board administrators or moderators can always send you personal messages.
