When I had around 100 members- I could send out mass e.mail.
But now when I have 151 members, I get this when trying to send out mass e.mail
Quote: | Ran into problems sending Mail. Response: 452 4.5.3 Error: too many recipients
DEBUG MODE
Line : 165
File : smtp.php |
My host keeps telling me I can send 250 a day.............and the problem is not at thier end !
I also posted here
http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1365325
But now all help has stopped....
Any suggestions- as I am totally lost here !!!!

It is not a matter of how many mails you can send, but how many recipients at once. Admin mass mail option generates a single mail with all recipient in the bcc field.

I have no experience with Mega Mail but from what I understand this MOD works fine and can help you solve your problem.

Another option that is fairly tedious but does not require a MOD is to sort people into different groups and send the mass email to one group at a time. If you create ten groups, you should be good for up to 1000 users if you can send mail to 100 people at a time.
If you're interested in this solution, and you can run SQL scripts directly on your database (via phpMyAdmin or something along those lines) please post back, as I can give you some SQL scripts to add users to groups for this purpose.

That really isn't enough IMHO. 250 per day...not hour?

Start by creating 10 hidden groups. I called mine "Mail Group 1" through "Mail Group 10" just because I didn't have a lot of imagination. The board admin should be the moderator of each of these groups. Making them hidden is the best choice because users won't see that they're a member of the group.
Normally each member would get an email when they've been added to the group, but they won't in this case because you'll add them to the groups via SQL instead. You'll need to know the group_id for each of the groups that you create.
I can get the SQL for you a bit later today that will add users to the appropriate group.

At the risk of sounding overly unpleasant, that's a rather tedious and silly solution.
A better one would be to implement email chunking, which does that all automatically. There's a MOD for it: http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=231577
It adds an extra feature which I didn't install, but it certainly does the chunking part OK.

It's tedious only if you add users to the groups manually. Doing it with a sql script takes about five minutes, tops. And it doesn't require a MOD.
I do agree that including a MOD would be better in the long run.

This is very very complex MOD, I don't think it worth the effort.
This sounds a lot better:

But it has to be tested.

I've been using megamail for a few years now on a couple of forums, works fine....or at least seems to work fine.
