I have a question for you folks -
I need to add a mod to my forum so that people can easily add pics to their posts/reports - I have a friend who has been hosting pics on his site for 7 years, and while some can figure out how to open a free account, upload pics, and then post the link on my site, many of them find it too complicated or cumbersome and don't even try -
I have successfully added many mods to my forum, but the attachment mod seems too complex for me -
Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated -
thanks in advance - New Guy

It is one of the biggest mods to add but there is an alternative.
The Starfoxtj members upload mod is installed in minutes as it is a stand alone that just checks the username and password against the boards. On uploading a picture you have the option to create a thumbnail if you wish and it gives several options for code - one of which includes the image tags.
Furthermore unlike the attachment mod it gives you the ability to post pictures to within the content of a post and not just added on within frames at the end.

Thanks Jim -
I wish there were a place I can look at it/try it from the "user's" end -
anyways, figured I would just upload and look at it from my site, but I must have did something wrong -
Using my ftp, I navigated to myforum/public_html/phpBB2/ and created a "useruploads" folder - I opened the empty folder and uploaded the index.php file -
Clearly I did it wrong because I don't see anywhere to add a pic to a new post, and get the "config.php not being found" error message, typing the url into my browser -
I need help please -

Guess you did not read the instructions.
Open the file index.php and enter the required info.
Create the folder on your desktop and place the file config.php into it.
ftp to the root of your domain.
Now go to http://yourdomain/userupload/index.php
Note that you put the folder into the root of your domain and not into the forum folder unless of course the forum is in the root.

Actually I read the instructions several times, so I guess I'm a dumb ass -
Here are my install instructions -
Product: PHPBB User Upload ToolKit v0.3
Contact: starfoxtj@yahoo.com
Website: http://starfoxtj.no-ip.com/phpbb/uploadtoolkit
Installation:
1: Extract the index.php and this instructions file from the zip archive.
2: Make a directory on your webserver where the uploads and this script will
be stored. Usually its: http://domain.com/userupload
However you may use any directory you wish.
3: Upload index.php to the directory, and installation is complete, you can
access the toolkit by typing the path. Example: http://domain.com/userupload
4: Enjoy!

Have you edited the file index.php to contain your site details?
It can be arranged for you to test the system should you wish.

No Jim, I did not -
When I read this ...................
After the toolkit is installed using the above method, you may edit the
index.php file to customize many options for the toolkit's behavior.
I assumed it was just telling me that I had the ability to edit, change size limits, etc - I did not believe that I had to do anything else to have it up an running -
Thanks for your help Jim, where do I start? -

By editing the file index.php as I said.
Open it in Wordpad or another text editor but not in MS Word or any wysiwyg editor.
Crimson editor is very good and free as is Notepad++
Open the file, read the instructions and make the changes and then click save.
The only change you need to make to start with to get it going is to put in the name of your forum folder.
Later on you may want to make changes to say the max file size that can be uploaded or the global sum of files but leave that until later.
Open in text editor
enter forum folder name in correct spot
Save
ftp to the upload folder you created. Remember this folder goes directly into the public_html folder.

I am sorry I have not been around to try these mods -
One of my very good friends had a heart attack and died last week, and so did our family cat of 24 years -
There have been alot of tears and sadness for my family and I, leaving no time for my phpBB2 fishing site -
I will be back over the weekend - thanks for all your help -

Take your time mate!
There are more important things in life than phpBB!

We have had attachment mod since we started back in 04 and it has never been a problem. The only thing missing was FLV support but we added that last year and it works great!

I am back and in full swing -
Got my board moved to a new host, and I am ready to get some kind of attachment mod up and running right away -
Do you guys think the attachment mod is the way to go, or one of the other ones out there?

Attachment mod all the way. You cannot go wrong. We have over 18,000 attachments with no issues at all.
