Okay, so I'm unable to get a paid host of, well, any price. Literally no money to spend.

I tried Freehostia (which worked fine, as it has before), but it doesn't allow external scripts to be run. Which, well, kinda' blows.

Anyone know of any decent, free hosts that I can use? It's really only for testing purposes, so... yeah. XD

If it is only for testing then why bother with hosting at all. Myself and many others use Xampp which turns your PC into a server giving you Apache, PHP, phpmyadmin and much much more.
You can even if you want "go live" but it really is designed for test use.

Before we get a long list of alternative software let me point out that Xampp is not the only one. It is however very easy to install and many use it.

Yes, Xampp is perfect for testing, and very easy to use, once you found out how it works. icon_wink.gif

Apart from on my home pc I even have it installed on a usb-stick so that I can take my test website anywhere. Stick it in a computer and there it is!

That's pretty awesome! Do you have to install it to the computer from the flash drive, or literally just plug it in and go? :O

I have it installed on my computer and on my flashdrive.

When you insert your flashdrive in your computer you can run the install.exe and choose the flashdrive as the place where you wnat to install it. Once that's done you place your files in the htdocs folder of Xampp and that's it. If you have to create databases you can do that on the flashdrive through Phpmyadmin that comes incorporated in Xampp and that's it. You now have a webserver with your test-site(s) on your pendrive and only have to plug that into any computer to be able to run Xampp and play around with your site.

There´s no need to install anything on that computer.

If you also want Xampp on your home pc you can do an install there too.

So you can either run Xampp from the pendrive on your home pc or from the install you made on that same pc.

Get it? icon_mrgreen.gif
