Attachment Mod: good for all types of documents, JPG, GIF, ZIP, PDF, and so, and so on.
UploadPic: good for pictures, PNG, JPG, GIF, ...
I am using a combination.
My members LOVE UploadPic because it is easy and fast to use.
Some statistics:
UploadPic: 29966 pictures right now (2,3GB)
Attachment Mod: 10616 files of different types (3,24GB)
And as an extra goodie: we have a downloadarea for LARGE files. We use oxpus Download mod for that. Right now: 1286 files with 8,24GB.

I love everything you had to say in that post and would like to emulate your board starting with having a look at Upload pic and the Starfoxtj mod -
What is FLV support?

Open the file index.php and enter the required info.
Create the folder on your desktop and place the file config.php into it.
ftp to the root of your domain.
Now go to http://yourdomain/userupload/index.php
Note that you put the folder into the root of your domain and not into the forum folder unless of course the forum is in the root.

There is no modding to do as there are no changes to the phpBB2 core files
Open the file that is in that download (index.php) with Notepad and find the following.
Code: | // You can change the following options:
// Setting 1: PHPBB Forum Folder Name
$phpbb_folder_name = 'forum';
// Option 2: Max File Size Permitted (In KBytes)
$max_filesize = 1024;
// Option 3: Disk Quota (In MBytes)
$disk_quota = 1;
// Option 4: Allow/Deny Admins from loggin in as other users
$admin_userlogin = 'yes';
// Option 5: Notification Email address. Can be used to send a notification each time a file is uploaded.
// Just leave at the default of 'noemail' to disable this feature
// Note: Currently emails can only be sent through this toolkit using the standard linux sendmail
$notification_email = 'noemail';
$notify_upload = 'yes'; // Will send an email each time a file is uploaded
$notify_rename = 'yes'; // Will send an email each time a file is renamed
$notify_delete = 'yes'; // Will send an email each time a file is deleted
$notify_hack_attempts = 'yes'; // Will send an email whenever a potential hack attempt occurs. Such as using "../" to try and switch directories. |
The only thing you will need to change is the name of your forum folder.
The rest you can leave if you wish.
make the change and save it.
Create a folder called "userupload" and place the file inside it.
ftp the folder to the root of your webspace.
CHMOD the folder to 666 (use ftp to set permissions)
Now on your index page put a link to the folder.
http://yourdomain/userupload/index.php
Jobs done.
Jim

Why would you want to uninstall the picture resize mod assuming that it is working ok?
All you need do is to replace the file backups that you made when you installed the mod. You did make and keep backups didn't you?

The picture resize mod SUCKS -
I installed it to avoid "larger" pics from breaking the frame, but the frame is now broken everytime, a pic is posted, regardless of picture size - (the exact opposite of what I want) -
(I want it gone ........................ pleeeeeeeze)
You clearly don't understand what my problem is, as i tried to explain it in text and screen shot via e-mail several times, but to no avail -
5 mintes on the phone would be all it would take, but I am US, and you are UK -
I want it gone either way, because it makes my situation worse, NOT better -
I'll ask again, will you please help me uninstall this mod Jim -
thanks

Clearly something went wrong when you installed the mod as I have the same mod on mine and also a Portal setup. The mod works fine with all images that are oversized being resized and no breaking the layout.
I quote the first line of the instructions.
Quote: | ############################################################## \par
## Before Adding This MOD To Your Forum, You Should Back Up All Files Related To This MOD \par
############################################################## |
Can you not just replace the files you edited with the backups you made?
If you have no other mods which changed those few files then can you not replace them with the originals from your download?
I would be very loath to get involved in un-installing a mod that I did not install and has not been done exactly as per instructions.
You see where I am coming from I hope.
That mod has been installed probably on countless 1000's of boards and does work fine even when there is a Portal set up so some change has been made which could take some time to find.
Considering me current state of health (heart surgery just a few weeks ago) I don't think any task that has me pulling my hair out is advisable.

Could it be that it does not work for certain browsers?

The mod works fine, I just don't like it because it actually adds to the width of the text/post body knocking my "right hand column" off the right -
I'm quite sure that you do NOT have a "left hand" column and a "right hand column" like I do, or you would be in the same boat -
I set the default width to a max of 700px - this mod will take a 500px wide pic, and blow it up, as well as shrinking an 800px wide pic -
I have noticed that in my directory, I have 2 phpbb folders, maybe I have files in the wrong place, and when I uninstalled the mod, the files were in the other directory? -
another screen shot -

Set the max-width to less, like 500px, or 450px.
Anyway, to uninstall a MOD you just have to follow the install instructions in the reverse order, undoing the changes the MOD tells you. Should be easy, and if you're not able to do this yourself you should maybe practice a little.
@Jim: Hope you're doing fine with the recovery, do as the doctors told you...
