Post subject: Shoutbox on a separate page

Does anyone know a shoutbox that works on it's own page only? All the shoutboxes I can find modify the index.php and index_body.tpl files and I don't want that. I only want a simple shoutbox that works on it's own page and that I can remove easily in case it won't work so well (which is also why I'm not that willing to take the time to develop it myself from scratch, just an idea I'd like to try out).

Erm... couldn't you just use a regular chatbox (you can find code for these everywhere) on its' own page?

In most cases it would require more modifications than a MOD (template work, user authentication/permissions coding).

It looks like they all boast "full integration" with phpBB2 - which means they've changed numerous files. One says it has the option to be a popup...but then it also says it has a DBAL????? Probably a bridge and not an integration.

Sounds like a ComBoa module to me. icon_wink.gif

Fully Integrated Shoutbox has it's own shoutbox page, plus a box on the forum index. But if you replace the box on the index with just an url to your shoutbox page it would be more or less what you're looking for.

I used to have this shoutbox on my forum because my users asked for one.

It's easy to install.

Thanks, I'll have a look at that one. I'll just have to make sure index.php and index_body.tpl don't get any modifications (and my versions of those files are already massively incompatible with subSilver anyway) icon_smile.gif

There's only one minimal edit for index.php and your index_body.
I'm sure you´ll be able to install this without any trouble.

And if your users are similar to mine I'm also pretty sure you'll remove it pretty soon as after a few weeks of playing with it it stops to be used.

Anyhow, good luck. icon_biggrin.gif
