There are several things in Lazer's post that will help even small boards (in the 1st say 10 pages). Just be sure you read through them entirely and have a good understanding of them before applying the suggestions.

That query is used to get the user's last post time for flood check. I solved the problem by storing the user's last post time in the users table.
