You can use phpMyAdmin to create an index, or you can do it directly with SQL statements.
Code:
create index topic_last_post_id on phpbb_topics(topic_last_post_id)
The last post is used to retrieve the date/time of the last post as well as the last poster name. On a standard phpBB2 board those fields are displayed on the index page.

But I have optimized so much in the past week that I wont see a difference I think ...
