Post subject: Suggestions on starting fresh

OK so here is where I stand.. it is time to tweak up the current 2.0.14 version. I installed phpbb-FM (fully modified) and I love some, like some, no need for much of it. The ACP is so convoluted I spend hours looking for settings. There is zero support over there.

After some discussion here it was suggested I just work with what I have and add what I liked.. so thats where I need some help.. I now have a long list of MOD's all in the NEED, WANT, WOULD BE NICE categories. I marked which ones I belive I already have installed, which ones I belive I have the MOD itself. Some I can not find or can't make a decsion on.

Right now I am settled on grabbing 2.0.23 and starting fresh with the that version, adding the portal first then the other MODs. Good plan? Seems to me the portal mod would be the most intense to add.

The first one is the portal mods. I think I am set on IM Portal. It looks like what is installed on phpbb-FM with many blocks avialable to add in. The other choice is EZPortal. Which do you all like better? The last choice is FMForumPortal v1.0 - but I think that was his reworking of probably IM Portal and in any case I can;t find it either.

MOD's I can't find anywhere:
1. Advanced myCalendar v1.0.0 (but Topic Calendar MIGHT be an alternative - anyone have tthat running I can see in action?)
2. At A Glance v2.0.0 (not 100% sure what this one does)
3. Default Avatar
4. Force Topic Read v1.0.3
5. Homepage And Favorites v1.0.0
6. Hypercell's For All Pages v1.1.0 (not 100% sure on this one either and I thought I did find it at phpbbhacks)
7. Knowledge Base (Saw discussion here and thinks thats a no-go?)
8. Mark Topics As Answered/Unanswered 0.9.0 Beta
9. MOD CP Mark All v1.0.0
10. Search Within FAQ

Some of the MODs I found or have saved locally are newer than what was in phpbb-FM, many are older version.. I'll deal with that when I get that far icon_smile.gif

I already have way too many hours in phpbb-FM, but I just can;t continue with that mess and read in many places how it was more trouble than it was worth..

thanks in advance for your insight!

I don't know any of the MODs you listed so I can't be much help here, and as for portals the only one I've tried is ezPortal. If memory serves, it was really easy to set up though, so you don't necessarily have to do it first if you want to start with the heaviest changes.

Use and prefer the IM Portal that I have installed on several sites. There are also quite a few add ons to that portal at Hacks.com

Thanks Jim.. I instaledl both that and ez portal and I still had to go back to the FM version for some of the features: linksDB, KB, versatility of the portal itself among other things.

Last night I tweaked up phpbbtogo making it look and work nice with my desired options.. Just so ya'll don' think I am a leach here I'll generic it up and pack and post.

The only thing I cant seem to get it to do yet is fill the screen immediatly when the page opens.
