I'm not sure I understand your question - are you looking for URL rewriting? If so, I can't help you since I've never used it myself, but that link is probably a good place to start reading.

I am guessing that what you're looking for is something like we have here. The phpBB2 forum is installed in the same folder as the rest of the site, and you can only have one "index" file. What I have done is create an Apache rule that says the domain without a file goes to "home.php" and that leaves phpBB2 with index.php to work within the expected framework.

Try it: www.phpbb2refugees.com versus www.phpbb2refugees.com/index.php

This doesn't use a rewrite rule, it's part of the apache configuration. If your host includes cpanel, there is an option to reset this right from there, if my memory is correct. It's managed via the directory index directive, not a full blown rewrite.

[Edit] Turns out I wrote a blog post about this some years back, describing how to manage this.

I use htaccess rewrites for alot of stuff. It is geniale.

Code:
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} /index\.html?$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)index\.html?$ "/$1" [NC,R=301,NE,L]

If you google "htaccess rewrite tricks" you will find alot of useful tricks for your site.
Good luck icon_wink.gif

that looks like a 301 redirect not one that sets the default file type for default.

all you need for this in your htaccess file is this line:

DirectoryIndex home.php index.php index.htm index.html

you can of course change the home.php to whatever file name you want as the default file for your site.

I just create a subdomain and upload all the files to it so they are not in folder that way when I go to the subdomain I go right to the forum...
