hi,
PHPBB2 has been awesome but it's time to move on. Are there any mods or ways to convert the forum content into html pages? We're going to end the forums but want to keep all the content as archived html.
Thanks

Why not simply switch the board to read-only and keep it as it is?

Keeping it read-only would certainly be the easiest solution, but it requires the database remain online and functional as well. An HTML archive would be portable. I did a quick google and found this page from about five years back. No idea if any of the links still work.
If you do find something that works, please post your experiences back here! Thanks.

We're moving to a non php server, that's why we require static html files. Thanks for your replies.

The problem I see with drathbun's links is that they're meant as single post converters where you copy-paste a BBCode message to get the HTML equivalent. I'm not sure it's a viable method to convert an entire forum. I think what I would do is write up a variation of viewtopic.php that would put all of a thread's posts on a single page and either put it in a loop to go through every thread in the database and save the output on the server (but that would probably time out?), or go through each manually and save them locally through the browser. Then do the same with viewforum.php and make sure to export the index as well.
That's the basics but there would be several other considerations like what to do with images, attachments (if any), links to profiles, PMs and such, etc. Links to other threads (if your members have posted any) would be broken as well so you'd have to convert them if you want them to remain functional. You'd probably want to tweak the template as well to get rid of the obsolete content, and perhaps strip signatures, avatars, ranks and such to save some space.
How large is your forum?

I once received the attached "MOD", a phpBB2 archiver that was written up by someone I met over at phpBB dot com in this topic.
I don´t know if this "MOD" can be of any help.
You will make your life a lot easier if you don´t switch to a non php server. What's the reason for moving away from something as basic as PHP?

I haven't used this in years but it worked perfectly the last time I did:
http://www.httrack.com/
However, php is such a basic part of a web server these days that you would have to search for one that did not support it.
another option would be to install something like Wamp on your computer and just install your board on your computer.

You can try the "Download Topic or Post" MOD, which is probably the same as selecting and copying the posts text into the clipboard and pasting it into a text file. All formatting is lost using this MOD to save the posts, because BBCode (and HTML, when enabled) is stripped away.

Hi!
You wrote:

and now you are moving to non-PHP?
That is a wide step backwards!
Do you have many topics/posts in the forum?

The new platform is Ruby on Rails so the goal is to pull the phpbb forum data into RoR so that they can be searched in a site search.
The forum has 25000 posts.
Thanks for these replies, I will look in to the suggestions.
