Post subject: Native mobile client Android, Iphone

Hello, I did try to find a working solution, native Android client , no luck. So I decide to write one by myself, due pretty big job I wish to know in advance how many people willing to support it in future (to buy it either as forum owner or user) if result looks promising I will give it a try to write one, first to Android, later to Iphone.
Please give me some input to make right decision!

What is acceptable price to you as an end user.

free
1-5 USD
5-50 USD

What is acceptable price to you as forum owner? (Client will be free to your domain)

100-300 USD
300-500 USD.

My forum is http://forum.mflenses.com run on phpbb2 and I not willing to replace to anything else.

Regards, Attila

why would anyone want to buy this? all you need is a decent style . there are several styles that would work well with a phone.
just about any of the fluid styles would work.

prosilver for phpbb3 works as it is for phones from what I have seen and heard.

For the client, the price will have to be zero. Otherwise you'll never see any level of adoption at all, in my opinion.

As far as the server, it would depend on how well it worked, and how it was licensed. If it was licensed by domain, I probably would not do it. If it was licensed by domain owner, then I would at least consider it if the client was free. Remember that most phpBB2 (or phpBB3) board owners are using the software because it's free, so you're not looking at an audience with deep pockets. icon_wink.gif

Well, in case of Tapatalk it is the other way around ... zero for the forum-owner and a small fee for the clients.

I wonder how many people will actually pay for something like that.

All the forum owner has to do is apply a decent style and have it switch to the mobile style when it detects the handheld device. Why would the forum owner want to alienate so many
potential members by making them pay for a third party program to be able to view their site?

I know I am old and old fashioned, but this just seems silly to me.

Well, I would never pay for something like that, but it seems they've been around for a while and still in business, so who knows... icon_wink.gif

Tapatalk is demanded by many of my users.
In Scandinavia very much is done online and via mobile devices, like paying for bustickets, cinema and much more. They are use to pay for apps and dont think much about it.

I am also old fashioned and would never do that or rely on those devices.

Heh, it's easier to charge lots of users than a single board owner I guess...

Yes, it is easier to get some cents from many then a huge amount from a few.
