Post subject: Server Move

I have been notified that our server is going to be physically moved from one data center to another. This would result in several hours of down time. The alternative that I have selected is to start a new server lease, which will allow me to move the domain with minimal down time, and get newer hardware to boot. Last time I moved servers but stayed with the same host the down time was hardly noticeable, as the IP address change was handled internally by the host router tables. I would anticipate the same happening this time.

Further details will be posted as they become available.

I have leased a new server and moved several domains already. The phpBB2 refugees site will be moved one evening (central time, US) this week. The moves have been taking about 10-15 minutes, including DNS updates. The DNS updates nearly instantly because we're not changing host companies, just host hardware. You may need to flush your local DNS cache to see the new site, but the move process sets up a redirect with instructions on how to do that.

The new box has the same amount of memory but double the core count. icon_smile.gif We'll be running on an 8-core system after the move.

If you can read this, congratulations, you've made the trip over to the new server. icon_cool.gif Please open a topic in the phpbb2refugees development forum to report any bugs.

Thanks
