Neither "Simple Subforums" nor "Pseudo Subforums" satisfied me.
So I took parts of two, and I created a new "MOD" for one of my projects.
It requires functions from Rank Color System, and its "template.php" file too.
Here is the result : http://images.imagehotel.net/?s5xgzgcpuv.png

Advantages : I don't need XS. I have a maximum compatibility with other MODs, like "Yellow Card", "Keep Unread Flags", ...
And I fixed the bug in "admin_forums.php" with "Simple Subforums" too icon_cool.gif.

Next work on it : I'm going to try to remove the categories system, in order to use the "forum_status" entry, which will determine if the value is a category or a forum (like CH).

You can't change the order of your categories, because the category id is not retrieved when the action is made.

Hmm that screen shot looks interesting. Very pretty back-end... I'd be interested to know what extra features this customised mod has.

As for the categories thing, you could end up adding up lots of different capabilities and end up reinventing the wheel. It seems Categories Hierachy is a much better route if thats the kinda thing you want. Personally, I have done a lot of cleaning up of the Psuedo Sub-Forums code hence putting that version on here for download, with just a couple of extra touches for that added finesse.

Whilst researching the other sub-forums mods, I happened to notice that the claimed 'mark forum read' function of Simple Subforums doesn't actually do what it says - seems to me despite the extra code the routine doesn't touch the sub-forums at all! icon_confused.gif I can at least guarantee my Uber Sub-Forums 'mark forums read' does indeed update its subforums icon_smile.gif

@ Holger : Could you give me your "admin_forums.php" file, please ?
I don't arrive to reproduce the mistake.

@ Ornette : Thanks icon_smile.gif.
I think I'll release my work soon.

Oh, it is so sad that this cannot be solved! It has high priority on my list of bug-fixes!

Sorry, I'm very busy these last weeks.
Here is your modified file.
Please try it, and say me if it's ok now icon_smile.gif.

PS : I have commented the modified parts.

-----------------------------------------------------

Edit : I forgot to ask you (everybody) if you'd like I release my Pseudo Subforums version.
There are more modifications than the original MOD.
