This site is an absolute joke. There is absolutely no reason to continue supporting/running 11-year-old forum software. Suck it up, grow up and move on to phpBB3. icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif

Well, 11 since the last official update. But phpBB 2.0 is still a fast and usable forum software, and not everything has to be optimized for mobile usage.

I was looking for a rude smilie Dave but you haven't got any. icon_lol.gif
There must be many thousands of boards still running on phpBB2 as mine will continue to do until I fall off the perch.
I along with many others are grateful that this site continues to exist as it is the place to seek help.
I think that the fact that activity is low is testament to the ver 2 software.

Jim

Well, I'm on an 11 year happy-streack for not having upgraded to that buggy phpBB3 thingy.

All hail the version which has not broken backwards compatibility with thousands of hours of work people have poured into it!

Isn't phpBB3 outdated as well anyway at this point? I would probably look more towards Flarum or Discourse if I wanted something modern.

That's a great question, actually. If you were starting a new board today, what would you use?

I don't really think I'd be starting a board in this day and age. I don't see much of a reason for it.

if you want to have actual discussions with people then a bulliten board is still better than any of the newer so called social things.

if you do a search for information do you get search returns that include facebook posts, or tweets etc. ? I have not seen any of those types of search returns to speak of. I still get returns that are links to posts on bulletin boards and sometimes blogs etc.

I'm not saying it's not a better solution. I think we're all here because we agree on that.
I'm saying it's become too niche for me to spend the time to try to create a new community from scratch.

I have completely stopped keeping up with this area. Back in the day there was vBulletin and EZBoard and a number of other competitors in this space. Are they all gone? Have they moved to new technology?

SMF and MyBB are still using the classical internet forum design, while with vBulletin there are even 3 different generations maintained at the same time.
