So, you found us. Welcome. Please read this topic as it sets up the expectations as to what is going to happen here on this board.
First let us make one thing very clear: This board is completely separate and independent from the phpBB Group. While you may find some familiar faces here, the phpBB Group has absolutely nothing to do with the founding, support, or day to day operations of this board. Anyone who claims otherwise is incorrect or misinformed.
As many folks know, the phpBB Group have announced the retirement of the "legacy" 2.x version of the phpBB software at the end of 2008. As we write this, the MOD and Style forums are already in the process of being closed and the support forum is scheduled to be closed early in 2009. Yet there are folks left that are interested in working with and continuing to use the 2.x version of phpBB. That's where this site comes in.
This site runs phpBB2. Afterall, wouldn't it be just a bit wrong to do anything else? However, it's not an unmodified board. We expect to be including quite a few different MODs in order to show a couple of things. First, there is a lot of life left in the phpbb2 line if it is treated well. Second, people have done some amazing things with phpBB2 and the efforts of those folks should not go unrecognized. Some of the MODs we're using are available to the public, but some are not.
We will not be releasing the source code used on our board as a "pre-modded" board so please do not ask.
For full details on the goals and objectives of this site, please read our site FAQ. In a nutshell, we hope to start out with a primary goal of providing a support forum for phpBB2 users. Over the coming months we will be launching our own version of a MOD database, and our plans for archiving phpBB2 Styles are still being determined.
We have other documents that you should be familiar with, including:
