I can not get into my easymod Center in my admin panel - no matter how many passwords I have tried-
Is there a way I can get a new password ?.....

er... It is not the answer you are expecting, but you really, really should not let any easymod directory on your production server: I was able to access the files.

As far as I remind, there is a small tool available @ area51, easymod section, to reset the password. However, working on a local environment, you don't need any password at all: it would probably be the best to do.

Sorry to repeat this, but drop all the directories relative to easymod from your server, as soon as possible.

No, I wouldn't get your password - I'm not this kind of guy, but you are vulnerable to attacks as the easymod directories aren't protected, so widely opened. A nasty buddy does not requires anything else to proceed.

This puzzles me !!!
How can one drop all directories relative to easymod from my server ?
This would mean the mods on my forum wouldn't work..

Plus you said "I was able to access the files."

The EasyMOD files and directories are not your MODs. But they contain how to undo the MODs installed by EM, well, at least as far as EM is capable of doing so.

But, having them present on your system means that, if someone manages to guess your password, they can make use of EM to install any sort of trojan horse MOD they need to attack you later. Don't give them the opportunity.

You should NEVER EVER EVER directly modify the files on your live server. It has taken 5 years of constant badgering to get one of my clients to stop taking their site down by "innocently" changing a file for one customer (but that affects 90 others), when we maintain a test server for them to do such mischief. There are MANY tools for simulating your board on a local machine; search GOOGLE for "easyphp" and "xampp", if you're using Windows. THAT is where you should be modifying files, then, after testing things, uploading the changed files to your real server!

If your forum worked before without easymod, then you can remove it, and it will still work after.

Once the MODs have been installed, they do not depend on EasyMOD to work.

Hi scotty. Sorry I'm late for the party...

EM Password Change

Here are three ways to fix that:
  1. Blank EM Password (DB Update File)

Download the following and extract the em_blank_pwd.php from the em_blank_pwd.zip file. Then upload the em_blank_pwd.php file to the root of your phpBB folder and run it from your browser. This will set the EM password to blank.

    em_blank_pwd.zip

The path to the em_blank_pwd.php file could look something like this in your browser:

    Code:
    http://yourdomain.com/phpBB2/em_blank_pwd.php

Once you have successfully applied this db update, you can delete the file from your server. Then to get into EM, you can leave the password field blank...

  2. Blank EM Password

You can go directly into your phpbb_config table and find the record which starts with EM_password. Copy and paste the following in the following field. This will make it so you can enter EM without any password. Once in, you can change it to whatever you want again in EM Settings...

    Code:
    d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e

  3. EM Password Utility

Try uploading this file to your admin folder and running it in your browser...

    Change EM Password (empw.php)

You have to remove the .txt extension from the empw.php.txt file before you can run it. Remove the .txt extension and upload it into your admin folder. Then run the empw.php file from your browser.

The path should look something like this in your browser:

    Code:
    http://yourdomain.com/phpBB/admin/empw.php

You will be asked to provide your new Password twice along with your FTP password. You will probably see a couple of errors, but the utility seems to work fine still. You will want to rename or delete this file when you are finished...

Let me know if you have any trouble with any of it. This is a simple password reset, so it shouldn't be very hard to accomplish. The first option above is the easiest and fastest...

Great!!! If you have any other problems installing MODs with EM, don't hesitate to ask for help. I would be happy to help you with any EM related problem that you might encounter...
