Post subject: Moved phpBB 2 Forum Database Error

I have moved a phpBB 2 site to a different server and have attempted to set it up but I am now getting this error:

Code:
phpBB : Critical Error

Error doing DB query userdata row fetch

DEBUG MODE

SQL Error : 1146 Table 'FOURPAWZ-phpBB2.phpbb_users' doesn't exist

SELECT * FROM phpbb_users WHERE user_id = -1

Line : 136
File : sessions.php

Can someone please advise on how I can fix this error?

The tables I have in the database are

Code:

phpbb_auth_access
phpbb_banlist
phpbb_categories
phpbb_config
phpbb_confirm
phpbb_disallow
phpbb_forums
phpbb_forum_prune
phpbb_groups
phpbb_posts
phpbb_posts_text
Browse phpbb_privmsgs
Browse phpbb_privmsgs_text

As you can see the user table is missing.

I appreciate any help anyone can give me on this.

"Install" mysqldumper on the old and the new webspace and use that to backup/restore.

I have used that tool without any error to obtain a backup of the database.

I have now tried to update the site to phpBB 3 but half of the posts are missing after conversion. Is there any way that I can fix this and make sure all 15000+ posts/threads are converted across successfully.

I have full access to the server that I am using to do the upgrade to the site on which I then want to merge with another phpBB 3 forum.

Please help.

post the last 20 or so lines from the backup file you are getting from the old board.

I went back and double checked the old board and realised that it looks like no posts are missing.

Is there an easy way to merge two phpBB 3 boards together ie just merge all users, threads and posts into another and prompt with conflicts??

If there is not then I think that this old db will be laid to rest!

your problem is that you are missing several tables in your backkup.

your backup process is timing out before it can finish.

use phpmyadmin or whatever your host provides to maintain and access your database.

once you get your database up in phpmyadmin, click on the export tab and select all tables.
choose "drop table" choose "complete inserts"

do NOT choose "extended inserts"

choose "save as file"

then click go
it will prompt you to save to your computer. do so.

now you should have a complete backup file and you can try the restore again.

also, what does this have to do with phpbb3?

also,
no, it is not feasible to merge two different boards/databases.

there are just too many interconnected tables for it to be worth the hassle.

If you follow my instructions, you will have a good backkup of the old board and you can restore it over the new one and you will be fine.

I have been able to obtain a backup copy of the database by having to use a different tool that the host does not provide due to timing out issues of php and phpmyadmin not showing the entire db.

I always have chosen to "save as file"!!

Thanks for all your help.

This issue is now resolved.

What is that "different tool" you are talking about? icon_biggrin.gif

How strange that phpmyadmin times out. I have "exported" databases as large as 1/2GB without any problems at all.

Jim, the phpMyAdmin time out limit is set by the server administrator, so it's not always the same.

It does seem to be a strange thing to do though does it not - some databases can be huge and then folks have to resort to dropping search tables and maybe even exporting the tables a few at a time.

This was the different tool that I used!

I agree. I did think it was quite strange that's why it didn't occur to me when I first starting the upgrade from phpBB 2 to 3 and the reason why this new forum does not have 15000+ posts from the old forum.

One to remember for next time.

The database sizes for this host are also limited to being no more than 100 MB. This db was less than 20 MB in size so a would presume that a lot of other people will end up being in this predicament with this web host at some stage or another.

If they have a limit of 100MB then you should seriously consider moving hosting. If your board is a success then 100MB is soon reached.

Yes I know.

This is for one of my clients so I have already made them aware of this and when I can I will move them over to my own web hosting as there are other issues with this host as well.
