It'll be, like, years before PhpBB4. Yearrrrrs.

If this site is still up by then, I will literally applaud it. Like, no joke, stand up and start clapping. XD

Personally I think BB3 is better but BB2 has some good points to, so just wondering why everyone on here likes it and still wants to carry on supporting it.

Thanks, Dan.

The deciding factor is likely to be the quantity and quality of posting I guess as I am sure that phpBB2 will go on in general use for a long time. After all there are folks still installing it in preference to phpBB3.
It is in the simplicity of administration that phpBB2 wins "hands down".
Not everyone has the capacity to learn the rather complex permissions side of phpBB3.

I am 62 years old now and my intention is never to change what I am using now. My users (many far older than me) are familiar with it, I have put a lot of effort into it and it does everything I need of it.

We are staying on phpbb2 for pretty much the same reason many here have stated. I'll just add one specific one : www.mail2forum.com
We can use our forum as a listserver on top of the normal phpbb2 functionality. Vital or us.
...and I like the old-school vibe...icon_wink.gif

Its all about competition who can create the biggest forum with the most features who can create the most secure forum and all that there is no one forum that's is going to please everyone and there will never be a totaly secured one ether, I mush rather have a small simple forum that I can simply add mods to for the features I need in stead of having a huge bloated forum with features I will never will use.

I'm using phpbb2 for only one reason: I integrate that particular forum with pre-existing mailing lists using add-on software known as Mail2Forum or m2f. The developers of m2f have totally dropped the ball when it comes to upgrading it to be compatible with phpbb3. Some work has been done in that direction, even an alpha release, but that work is abandoned for many months at a time. It's been about 3 years and there's not even a usable beta version yet.

I operate other forums using phpbb3 and it does have some advantages over version 2. I'd love to be able to upgrade that one forum, but there are still hundreds of die-hard mailing list users, including some of the best contributors, and I refuse to abandon them.

I have spent 3 long years
from 2005 to 2008
to customize my phpbb2 forum in the best way possible, to express my needs!
and I am not going to throw in the trash all these years just to pass to a board which is for me slow and hard to customize, like phpbb3 is (in my opinion). icon_wink.gif

Similar reason here.
I have customized the phpBB2-forum a lot since 2003 and paid a lot of money for that.
And I hate the permissions-system in phpBB3.

I am not trying to push phpbb3 by any stretch of the imagination, however, the number of posts you have is not a problem when converting. The more you have the longer it takes, but it can do the job no matter how many forums/topics/posts you have.

Understood. Our site has been extensively modified. Unfortunately PHPBB3 would not be able to meet our ongoing requirements.
