Maybe:-
templates/yourstyle/admin/forum_edit_body.tpl

<td class="row1">{L_FORUM_DESCRIPTION}</td>
<td class="row2"><textarea rows="5" cols="45" wrap="virtual" name="forumdesc" class="post">{DESCRIPTION}</textarea></td>

Unless I am mistaken it is that which is limiting the text you can eneter to 5 x45 characters including spaces.

No. I think that is the actual size of the textarea box in the edit forums page. icon_sad.gif

There is an actual character limit set somewhere.

Well I hope someone knows where it is as I have just spent about an hour hunting for it and failed.

Hello,

I don't know how many characters you need, but I would suggest having a look at the phpbb_forums table, forum_desc row, type column using phpmyadmin.
It is set to TEXT by default, allowing 65535 characters; if needed, you could change it to MEDIUMTEXT or LONGTEXT. See below for their specifications.

Quote:
TINYTEXT
A BLOB or TEXT column with a maximum length of 255 (2^8 - 1) characters. See section 6.5.3.1 Silent Column Specification Changes. See section 6.2.3.2 The BLOB and TEXT Types.

TEXT
A BLOB or TEXT column with a maximum length of 65535 (2^16 - 1) characters. See section 6.5.3.1 Silent Column Specification Changes. See section 6.2.3.2 The BLOB and TEXT Types.

MEDIUMTEXT
A BLOB or TEXT column with a maximum length of 16777215 (2^24 - 1) characters. See section 6.5.3.1 Silent Column Specification Changes. See section 6.2.3.2 The BLOB and TEXT Types.

LONGTEXT
A BLOB or TEXT column with a maximum length of 4294967295 (2^32 - 1) characters. See section 6.5.3.1 Silent Column Specification Changes. Note that because the server/client protocol and MyISAM tables has currently a limit of 16M per communication packet / table row, you can't yet use this the whole range of this type.

Unless there is actually a character limit set by phpbb somewhere, that should do the trick!
Hope this helps! icon_wink.gif

Thanks that seams to have helped but it's not solving the entire problem. I think I still need more room... icon_cry.gif

Kay, look, Cowboy. I did the math:

With longtext, you'd have the ability to write 4, 294, 967, 295 characters. The average length of the English word is 5 characters. I calculated with 6 to add spaces.

That totals out to 715, 827, 882 words.

The bible (sorry, but that's just the easiest reference) has 774, 746 words in it (that's both new and old testament combined).

So, even if you could utilize this many characters (which, as Sbourdon said, was due to file size) you'd be writing the equivalent of almost 924 bibles. All custom text.

There is NO POSSIBLE WAY you could need that much room for a forum description.

But please, do tell me: What in the bloody hell are you trying to make your forum descriptions say? :O
