That could be on-part of the Mod.

You'll need to check around your database for any tables related to that and look for anything with a varchar(60), char(60), etc. set for it. If you find anything, just post it here. :3

Post subject: Re: How extend the subject line?

I wrote this MOD years ago to do just this. Note that the subject field in the database is limited to 255 characters because it is defined as "varchar" but that should hopefully be enough. The MOD was written for 100 characters. If you want more, change anything that says 100 to whatever you number, up to 255 if you want.

FWIW, this MOD was validated and in the phpbb.com MOD database at one time.

SQL
Code:
alter table phpbb_posts_text
modify post_subject varchar(100);

SQL
Code:
alter table phpbb_topics
modify topic_title varchar(100);

OPEN
Code:
templates/subSilver/modcp_split.tpl

Special Notes wrote:
On or about line 18; find text might not be a complete line

FIND
Code:
     <td class="row2" colspan="2"><input class="post" type="text" size="35" style="width: 350px" maxlength="60" name="subject" /></td>

IN-LINE FIND
Code:
60

IN-LINE REPLACE WITH
Code:
100

OPEN
Code:
templates/subSilver/posting_body.tpl

Special Notes wrote:
On or about line 291; find text might not be a complete line

FIND
Code:
      <input type="text" name="subject" size="45" maxlength="60" style="width:450px" tabindex="2" class="post" value="{SUBJECT}" />

IN-LINE FIND
Code:
60

IN-LINE REPLACE WITH
Code:
100

But he's already done all of that, aside from the ModCP file edit.

I believe his new problem lies in the RSS Mod he's using. However, I've never used this so I could be totally wrong.

There are two SQL statements to be run... since they came out in two different posts is it possible they missed one? In any case, the MOD contains all of the instructions required to extend the subject, so I posted it. icon_smile.gif

Thanks a lot both of you.
I have done all the edits, but it seems that the FIND INPUT mod is limiting somewhere. Cannot find it!

Which FIND INPUT?

This one?
Code:
      <input type="text" name="subject" size="45" maxlength="60" style="width:450px" tabindex="2" class="post" value="{SUBJECT}" />

If it's this one just look for {SUBJECT} instead of the whole line and see what the .maxlength is in the complete line {SUBJECT} is in.

FIND INPUT is a mod that imports RSS-feeds from other sites to the forum.

And it's working? I've heard of this before, but I never tested because it was beta. Can you please provide a link to the latest release? icon_biggrin.gif

Hm, I am searching like mad for it, but those two keywords always give MANY hits icon_biggrin.gif icon_rolleyes.gif
Yes, it works pretty well, BUT, if the subject line is cut of it imports the item again and again and again, until the next one is issued.

Ah, I see.

I don't know that MOD so I canīt help you with this.
Logic makes me think you should search in the files both MODs make edits in.

Let me clarify something... is that MOD keeping all topics from having longer subjects? Or is it simply limiting the topics that it creates?

If it's keeping all topics from having longer subjects, then it's a problem. That MOD should not have anything to do with human-entered posts. If it's just the posts from the FIND process, well then there is some code within the MOD that is expecting subjects to only be 60 characters and therefore the subject is getting trucated.

Ok, so what you need to do is look for any SQL code that inserts into the TOPICS_TABLE or POSTS_TABLE and find where the subject is being created. You might even just search in the FIND code for the number '60' and see if it's related to the subject, and if so, set it to 100, or 255, or whatever number of characters you have set up in your database. icon_cool.gif
