Thoughts?

It's a way to run more than one board using the same code installation, if my guess is correct. So if you want to run 3 or 4 boards on different subjects but not have to worry about updating / patching four different web sites you can share the code.

Yes but I want it to be able to create new forums from a sign up page. But the sign up page has to be password protected because these are private boards and I do not have plans to open up to the public because I don't have that kind of bandwidth available.

I'm thinking 10 clan gaming boards max. Or until I hit about 50% bandwidth which ever comes first..

I thought this would be a good time to start from scratch and document everything as I go.

Or perhaps do it on a free host server so we can document it completely and easily so if something is not quite right other mods can look at it with fresh eyes ect.

I can not find documentation on this anywhere so this would be the only site to have it as far as I know.

There is some existing code out there I found that will help with this but it defiantly needs some fine tuning.

Perhaps create an entire multi-board installer? Then we could even release it with some select pre-installed mods. Sort of modernize it a bit. Sort through some of the patch work to ect.

This could be a very popular release for the gaming communities.

Just though I would toss it out there to get some opinions on it.

Input?

The one I have was made Feb 2001.

So yours is probably more current.

Thanks.

You have chosen not to display your email link so how do I get it to you.
Maybe you could email me with your email address.

Wow that's really a nice one Jim. icon_biggrin.gif

I have question though:

Will this work with the Simple Subforums mod?

The reason I ask is that I tried a different brand of multiforums some years back and it didn't work out well.

Thanks Jim. icon_biggrin.gif

since the multiforum scripts simply use the phpbb code, most any MOD you install will be available to all boards you create.

Basically all that happens with this sort of script is that you have a common set of files shared by all boards and a single config.php file containing the connection info for each board that you create. As the boards are created so a new set of files is created in a common database. Get the idea? One database and separate sets of files within it sharing a common structure but each with it's own unique prefix and of course sets of data unique to that board.

A lot of folks went into business providing free hosting and generating income from adverts on such set ups.

Yes I do understand these things However the last time I did this. (Granted it was years ago) I remember having to update a file or 2 when certain mods were installed, else they would not appear on the new boards.

I assume this means that issue has been fixed since then. icon_biggrin.gif

Bravo because that was a real pain...

Now I will just have to update the templates images for subforums I guess.

Can you think of anything else I should know?

Is this the latest version?
