I have also noticed a speed increase. I was wondering if it was real or a placebo effect. icon_smile.gif

I did get a "depreciated" notice on a couple of pages that use the split() command

I take it that split() is actually split(something in here)?
If so is it possible to make the change to search.php now before it is upgraded to version PHP 5.3 or would the alternatives not work now?
My version of PHP is 5.2.17

Yes, Jim, the split command does have arguments. It turns out that split() and explode() have essentially the identical purpose so you can simply find any occurrences of the split() function call and replace it with explode() and the code works exactly the same. From php.net

Quote:
array split ( string $pattern , string $string [, int $limit = -1 ] )
Splits a string into array by regular expression.

Quote:
array explode ( string $delimiter , string $string [, int $limit ] )
Returns an array of strings, each of which is a substring of string formed by splitting it on boundaries formed by the string delimiter.

Thanks Dave. Making the changes now will help with my memory issue!
If my webhost upgraded PHP in a years time and it all went pear shaped I would probably not remember the cause.

By setting an appropriate error level you can suppress the error messages as well. It's better to fix it though.

Upgrading MySQL was the reason I upgraded php; it came as a package. MySQL 5.0 has a fairly severe password vulnerability, so anyone on 5.0 - especially if your database is exposed to external logins - should update immediately. That being said, we only updated to 5.1 rather than all the way to 5.5 on this last round.

Thanks drathbun,
I have upgraded mySQL to version 5.1.63 and I didn't notice any problem so far after the auto conversion
it seems to me that the board loads even a little faster than before

Newer versions of MySQL, 5.1 and 5.5, will break some queries in some phpBB2 Mods.

The change has to do with table joins. These queries need to be modified to place parentheses around the table names when joining.

The table name by itself has to be included in parenthesis? Do you have a link to an article or requirement showing this? I don't think that's ANSI SQL, at least the way I am visualizing it in my head based on your post...

It doesn't show up in the 5.5 documentation page here for example.
